070-D: executive summary
Range: 070 - includes all UK personal number tariffs, tariffed from D rate up to PN2.
dmClub D-rate numbers have the prefix 07039-4
Cost to call: BT landline rates are 16.71p and 9.85p per minute Day and Night/Weekend (inc. VAT), more from mobile operators who don't like Personal Numbers!
Image: Personal Numbers are intended for personal/private use, although D-rate is not exorbitant and might be acceptable for some commercial uses.
Cost of ownership: In general these numbers are totally free to the owner when used to forward to UK landlines and many International landlines. There may be cost-saving ServicePlans that trade a fixed monthly fee for discounted international divert rates.
International accessibility: Medium.
Regulatory issues: This range has always been a little controversial and is likely to be renumbered in the next 2-5 years. Any numbers registered with 070 providers will be transferred when this happens.
dmClub will support all users in this changeover period, including the early release of numbers that work on both ranges.
Mobile accessibility: All UK operators overcharge for calls to Personal Numbers, perhaps they've viewed them as a threat in the past.
Typical Applications: Often used as "on call" numbers where it's convenient to change the destination on the fly. Also good for privacy and anonymity. These relatively cheap to call numbers (compared to other Personal Number ranges!) are much more acceptable for general use. Some dmClub users adopt them to try out services such as dmSwitchboard before committing to a paid-for number
